overkill

Currently two different network stations (the Fox-affliliate and the CBS-affiliate) are showing two entirely different versions (different shots, different commentators) of the SF Giants v Oakland Raiders game, in which two dreadful teams try not to embarrass themselves.

[Update:] Of course I mean the 49ers v Raiders. Also, they’re replaying the entire game on a third distinct station.

[Another Update:] Seriously, what’s the deal with this game? It’s being replayed on a fourth station.

Uh, I think you mean 49ers vs. Raiders. I’d like to see the (SF) Giants play the Raiders, though. That said, I still can’t figure out why everyone loves football so much. I was totally disgusted when the following happened to me during my visit to Pittsburgh in early July:
    1) I go into Pirates/Steelers fan store at South Hills Village Mall looking for a Freddy Sanchez T-shirt
    2) I ask the guy about whether they have any. Answer: no.
    3) I ask the guy if they will be getting any seeing as he is leading the National League in batting average and is plain awesome. Answer: Well, Steelers season is starting up, so nobody’s paying attention to the Pirates anymore. Bear in mind, this occurred *before* the All-Star Break. More than half of the baseball season was yet to be played! Evidently, Steelers mini-camp in Latrobe is more exciting than games that actually count for something.

I know this has always been a football town but since they won the Super Bowl it just never ends. I acutally hear chants of “here we go Steelers” everywhere I go. No joke – concerts, the 4th of July fireworks and yes even baseball games.

I do like football most though.
